Two Dresses

The woman in this picture is from a drawing I did of Olivia 6 years ago (already!).  I’ve used it countless times and in different media,  this summer I used it to make a Japanese woodblock print!  The woodblocks were then photographed, and layered back into my digital art.

Bouncing Along

One of my favorite parts of the train ride from Providence to NYC is taking pictures out the window.  I choose a different camera app for each trip and see what happens.  Each app has its own controls, and I use them to express a different version of the trip.  It could be shadows and contrast.  It could be speed and blur.  It could be color.  This was a black and white trip with slow shutter speed that blurred the scenery as I passed by.  In editing, I found that by making a row of three of the same images, I distorted the perspective.  Adding the colorful geometric further blurred the line between abstract and real and contributed to the story of the image.

Fascinator

Many moods from one image.  On a cold, rainy Saturday afternoon, I indulged my love for full on color. One joy in making art this way is being able to find the many different feelings that lie within an image.

That Was Then

Having vowed to post every day, I have let myself down a bit this week.  I am working on two things now, related it turns out, but it all is so experimental, I have not made a finished piece I am happy to post.  But I am learning a lot in getting ready to do a workshop in my processes with masking and cut outs in mobile art.

Here is a portrait I did from a snapshot of my daughter trying on a hat in a department store in London.   This particular type of hat is called a fascinator, which I think is delightful.  In working on this, I enjoyed the process of flowing from app to app, using the different tools available to get the effects I was looking for, and sometimes, enjoying the effects they offered.
